PC or TV?

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Decade(s) ago, television was a sure hit to couch potatoes, spending most of their time in front of it.  But nowadays, people has been raging over the online community.  Time passes by unnoticed when you are surfing the net.  You have just opened some mails and have been playing games in your pc but you didn’t notice that you have spent more than 5 hours already doing just that.

But isn’t it what the modern world is all about?  You can have what you want throught the internet? You can purchase clothes, shoes, order for food, watch tv programs, and most of all, study through online communication.  It might just a PC but its effect to the society is more than that.  Cyber community is as wide as the community in the real world or even wider.  It bridges people from different places and bridges even businesses from different countries.

Who wouldn’t want to be in front of the PC when you can do almost everything you want and can even be to places you’d like?

Proper Diet

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Children today are getting fat. 24% of children in the US aged 2-17 are already overweight, and another 8.6 million are heading for obesity. Is there a cure for childhood obesity? What about teaching children to eat right? Lack of physical activities has been one of the reasons for obesity. But obesity is mainly a nutrition issue, thus, can be avoided through proper diet.

Miami, FL August 26, 2006 — Looking back at 2006, it may well be remembered as “The Year of the Obese Child”. Certainly overweight children have been around for as long as we’ve had food on our plates, but now the number of children who are fighting serious battles with their weight and health-related issues has reached critical mass. According to the CDC and National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention, the prevalence of overweight among children aged 6 to 11 has more than doubled in the past 20 years, going from 7% in 1980 to 18.8% in 2004. The rate among adolescents aged 12 to 19 more than tripled, increasing from 5% to 17.1%.

They were born into a society that has created 19,000 types of coffee-drink options, super-sized even the biggest burger and drenched just about every fast-food in heart-clogging fats, is it any wonder that kids as young as 6, are being diagnosed with diabetes, eating disorders and serious health problems?Physical activities may help, but it would really be best if food intake is being watched. As kids, they may not be fully aware of the consequences of obesity. So, as parents, you take the responsibility. Have them disciplined when it comes to their food intake and make them understand.  By doing so, they will understand why you have to do this and would make them responsible for themselves especially with their health.
