Depression

Monday, February 26th, 2007

One of the reasons that makes a person a couch potato is Depression.  People tend to become so weak and just stay up in one place.  Feeling of hopelessness, low self-esteem, discouragement, and the likes which keeps them in bed or in the couch and spend their time watching tv.  TV sometimes just becomes a props for their mood, that the program they are watching are not really absorbed by their mind.  Sometimes they just scan the channels and has nothing in particular to watch.

Another indication of a depressed person is a significant weight loss or gain.  For the couch potatoes, it is much more on gaining weight.  Doing less chores or activities and have more time on snacks and meals.

Depression can lead to serious mental illness.  If you are depressed and doesn’t feel like going out of the house much, be sure to enjoy being a couch potato.  Instead of having a dull moments at your house because of depression, use this opportunity to enjoy being a couch potato!

Afraid of becoming a couch potato? Or better yet, a bed potato? Here are a summary of tips I got on how to avoid it:

  • Try placing some of your stuffs out of reach from your bed. Like your cellphone, tv remote control, books, and the likes. So that if you may need them you’ll have to get up from your bed.
  • Have friends to help you get up and out of the house. Go socializing with some friends in the neighborhood.
  • Take a shower early in the morning so that you’ll be more energized to do some physical activities.
  • Make a to-do list so that you’ll see yourself busy the whole day and start working from the time you woke up.
  • Most importantly, get yourself motivated to get up and do some work! It’s you who can control yourself, so be your own boss.
