Thursday, February 8th, 2007

As couch potatoes are being criticized by many for things like obesity, laziness, unproductive, and the like, sure thing is that people also benefit from couch potatoes, especially the business people.

Cable operators have been targeting the attention of the couch potatoes. Each are competing on its offering to the subscribers. Large operators buying the small ones to add up their offering. Making one cable operator more substantial, thus, you don’t have much difficulty what to choose.

TV networks are improving its programs for to have better offer than others. It makes the industry grow by producing beneficial tv programs.

Film industry are improving because of the qualities that gets better over time. As couch potatoes gets more choosy with the film they’re watching. If they can buy or rent something better at a not-much-of-a-different price, why go to others?

More technologies are being developed for the couch potatoes, making it also an easy life for those who are not. Just like the couch bike, it makes life more convenient for everyone.

So, just think of the effects of a couch potato in the society. Being a couch potato also is beneficial to some body.

Kids Off the Couch

How can you bring your child for a stroll when they can’t leave the television set?

The answer is “Kids Off the Couch”, a website that links cultural activities, to a related movie, which allows the media-addicted kids to stay in front of the TV until their interest will be  hooked. Sarah Bowman and Diane Philips Shakin, the site’s founders, draw from their film knowledge and extensive explorations of the Los Angeles area to create pairings that appeal to intellectually minded parents and to finicky children as well.  They encourage the parents to consider films which are not obviously geared to children.

Each “Popcorn Adventure” has a lesson plan with questions to ask the kids, tips on age-appropriateness and factoids about the movie and the activity. Parking tips and links to ticket reservation websites make planning easier for harried parents. All the adventures are tested by at least one of the women and her children.

If before, children gets all excited when told to go outing on weekends because they’ve got nothing else to do, now, they’ve got DVDs, video games, and a lot  more.  Kids Off the Couch is for the children to be convinced in catching interest in the outside world.  Since some kids cannot be easily persuaded, the website contains a list of tips, including the “Fifteen Minute Rule” — promise the kids that they can switch off the movie or leave the museum in 15 minutes if they don’t like it — and “Bribe them” (no explanation needed).

Now, Kids Off the Couch has more than 2000 subscribers since it has been launched a year ago.  It has the Los Angeles location by far, and they are planning a New York-specific site as well as a national version suggesting activities that can be found in most cities.
