Nowadays, most parents are too busy earning money for their family that they barely spend time with their children. Before, it is only the father who works for the family. But today, it is both the mother and the father to better provide the rising needs of the family.

Since they barely have time with the kids, they must make a good use of the little time they spend with them. After work, it is understandably that they are stressed enough to engage into more physical activity with the children. So one option is the television. Spend quality time with the kids watching tv. Chit chat with them to know the kids better.

Couch potatoing with the kids can be of good use for a quality time with them. Parents can also guide their children with the tv program they are watching while creating bond with them.

Were you an active person who turned into a couch potato? Sometimes, we’d like to do things we used to do but our body isn’t fit enough to do it. This makes us discouraged in engaging with the activity once more and worse if it affects our self-esteem. What we need is creativity and motivation to do what we want to do. Take this case as an example, and an inspiration as well:

Joan Denizot, avowed couch potato by heart and by history, knew she needed to do something to get her moving. Her good health was no longer a given. Severely overweight, she needed to find an exercise that she loved, so that she would do it. Bicycles came instantly to mind.

After losing over 100 pounds since 2005 by surgery and exercise, and still being a very large woman, she decided that she needed to get a bike that was built strong enough to hold her. She started looking around. Most U.S. bikes are not built to hold more than 200 lbs. After scouring the Internet, talking to bike experts, and visiting shops, she discovered that, yes, it is dangerous to ride a bike that is not built to hold your weight, and no, they weren’t available for extra big people. It was while doing this frustrating research that she realized that she was not the only fat person who wants to ride a bike–thus Super Sized Cycles was born.

source: www.prweb.com

If at first attempt you think you cannot do it anymore, think again. You just need to think of other possibilities. So, if you couldn’t fit on a bicycle, make the bicycle fit for you.

If we don’t want to get involved in physical activities, then, it is best for us to make use of our time doing worthwhile activities to be more efficient. An online education community is helpful, especially for students during summer, month before exams, and the likes. A free online community is helpful for them so that even if they are being couch potatoes, they make good use of it.

A free online education community at www.Course-Notes.org is offering free AP course outlines, study guides and more to help high school students prepare for their AP exams being given this month.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 1, 2007 — May marks AP (advanced placement) exam season for many high school students hoping to gain college credit for their advanced high school coursework. With exam times looming, students are being offered a free and comprehensive collection of AP course outlines, study guides and more at www.Course-Notes.org, to help them prepare for exams. The site also offers a popular AP student community, where students can get help with homework or discuss various course concepts with other students and site administrators.

source: http://www.prweb.com/

With this online community, students do not only become efficient couch potatoes but more responsible with their studies as well.

Being a couch potato is a product of different factors. People who has retired from their jobs who needs rest from their previous busy lifestyle are more likely to become couch potatoes. Well, they deserve to be on the couch because they have been so busy all their life earning for a living. Couch potatoes also are a result of the technologies developed in the modern world. Things became handy, thus, you can do multiple tasks at a time without getting much of physical effort. Being a couch potato could also be a result of the environment where a person has grown up. If people around you are mostly a couch potato, then, you are susceptible to the couch potato lifestyle.

Knowing these factors, we can prevent not only ourselves from being a couch potato but children as well. Children’s personalities are molded in their young age. So it would be easier to prevent them from being a couch potato while they are young. Encourage them to get involved in various physical activities such as joining sports activities or community services. We can influence them in getting interested in these activities while they are young. Also, do not let them get exposed with television too much. Kids can be easily get hooked with television. You can set house rules on when they can watch television.

There is nothing wrong being a couch potato, as long as a person is responsible with his health. It has been know that most couch potatoes has health problems. Do not wait for these problems to come and cure it. Instead, try to prevent it. It is only a matter of time management and getting yourself motivated to get physically active.

Here is an interesting true story that would help us realize why we need to get healthy:

EDMONTON - Jim Jerome has been a pack-a-day smoker his whole adult life. He’s also a couch potato. “I’ve never even walked playing golf,” he says.

He’s sort of disgusted with his health, “but I’ve been able to get away with it for whatever reason. I don’t exercise, I don’t gain weight. I smoke, and my family has no heart disease.”

Then his 10-year-old daughter Sydney came home from school and told her dad that according to what she learned in science class he was killing himself by smoking and she wanted to know why? With teary eyes she also asked him when he was going to stop?

“I said ‘Dad, I’m worried,’ ” she remembers.

“That got me right in the guts, you know?” says Jerome.

“My kids are too old now not to understand what I’m doing to myself and it’s a joke to tell your kids not to smoke when you smoke.

“If I expect my kids to stay healthy then I’ve got to lead by example, otherwise they’ll become less active watching me, is the problem. It would be horrible if they smoked because they saw me smoke.”

full story

We may sometimes not know it but people close to us are affected of our lifestyle. Wouldn’t it be a shame if your kid will be the one who would tell you that what you are doing is unhealthy or that is not the right thing to do? Let us not wait for them to tell us that what we are doing is wrong. As kids, we teach them the right things that they must do and believe. Thus, we must also live with the things that we teach them and be a good example to them.

Exercise is not only for weight loss purposes or for body health. It affects our mood and our well-being. It helps us think more clearly and also feel good about ourself that it gains us more confidence.

For those who suffer with depression, they are more likely to convert themselves into a couch potato. Hey! Be smart enough to get smarter! Instead of isolating yourself, get yourself healthier and smarter. Take time to exercise. It will help you think better and get rid of depression.

For couch potatoes, get up and do some moves. What we must really avoid here is laziness. If you confess yourself to be a couch potato, be sure you are not the lazy one as what people perceive a couch potato is. Once in a while, move your body, flex your muscles, and let out some sweats. There is nothing wrong being a couch potato. But have time to care for your health. It’s not only for your body but for your brain as well.

Walking is the simplest form of exercise. It is healthy and it can actually increase your life span.

A moderate level of physical activity, such as walking 30 minutes a day, lengthened life by 1.3 years and added 1.1 more years without cardiovascular disease, compared with those with low activity levels. Those who chose a high physical activity level gained 3.7 years of life and added 3.3 more years without cardiovascular disease.

source:http://walking.about.com/

Don’t wait for the disease to develop before you start working out for your health. Prevention is still better than cure. You do not really need to spend a special time just to walk. You can do it with your daily routine or habits. Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs. There’s no need to ride a car in going to places where you can walk the distance. There are a lot of ways on how you can get yourself walking. All you need to do is to start putting it in your mind that you must take a walk more often.

Gym rat is someone who spends most of his/her time in the gym. Sure thing couch potatoes aren’t gym rats, right? How about considering yourself going to the gym? Just to trim up your weight and flex your muscles. Maybe you won’t imagine yourself a gym rat. But who knows who will ever be? Just start going to the gym to stay fit. You don’t have to be a gym rat if you don’t want to. Just spending a few hours a day and few days a week won’t harm you, right?

In the gym, stay focused on your workout and think of your time. Most gym rats are actually not being efficient. They stay longer in the gym because of some reasons. They sometimes fall into deep conversations or chit-chats that they are not aware how long have they been there. Also, avoid redundant exercises. Maybe having yourself a time limit of your stay in the gym would help. Then be sure you make your stay in the gym worthy of your time by being efficient.

But if you don’t feel like going to the gym but you feel like you must go to, befriend a gym rat. Maybe he/she can influence you to go to the gym and stay more often.

With the emerging high technology, more and more console games are sprouting and so are couch potato kids. These games are being a culture already for kids. Even adults are also addicted to this hobby which makes them more a couch potato. So to help them with their fitness concerns, a hi-tech gym may lure them into getting fit.

In Pendle leisure Centre in Colne, Lancahire, 25 exercise bikes were linked to a special computer game that lets the riders compete against each other which they call Exertris Interactive Bikes. It also has plasma screen TVs, virtual projection and lights that really fits the youngsters.

Going into the gym won’t let the kids feel that they are there only to exercise but to have fun as well. This concept is great in motivating people to get fit and promoting physical fitness. Creating different concepts for gyms really is a good idea. So, for the owners, they might consider creating concepts that fit to their target market. The usual gym environment sometimes is boring and uninteresting.
